Ska Wiyaka means White Feather in Lakota and she had a White Feather on her
forehead.
It is also said that if you find a white feather, you are being watched over
by an angel. Before I named Wiyaka, my window fell out in the lounge and I
had to sleep downstairs until I could get it fixed the next day, partly due
to fear of a break in and partly due to Wiyaka being unsettled and
howling. Early the next morning my friend visited me and said she could
smell gas very strongly, I have no sense of smell so I never noticed
it. After getting the emergency gas people out, they condemned my boiler and
said it was a miracle we didn't all die due to the amount of gas leaking out
of it, and that we were probably saved by the window being out. He also said
"someone must be looking after you, I can't tell you what a lucky escape
you've had". In shock I went outside for a cigarette, and found a perfect
little white feather on the ground, it was almost identical in shape to
Wiyaka's feather, hence her being named Ska Wiyaka/White Feather.
