Redkite Kiwani at Haukola
Kiwani was my first Utonagan and I got him 4 years ago now when he was
aged 4years.
He had been the alpha of his pack and the stud dog for the lady who bred
him, Jan Farrington who was then the secretary of the society. I must admit
I was a little wary at first and wasn't sure if I could take on an older dog
who had been "top dog" for so long.
I couldn't have been more wrong. He is an absolute star, and has got me
through some very rough times with illness, checking on me every half hour
through the night for six months on a particularly bad health episode. He
has become well known as the healing dog locally, when anyone is very
poorly, especially in hospital, they make dramatic recoveries once they get
a photo of Kiwani next to them. He has certainly done me the world of good
and I owe him a great deal. I was able to return the favour when he broke
his toe playing ball on the park and when a nasty neighbour poisoned him, I
nursed him back to full health and my vet is always amazed at how quickly he
recovers from things.
He's a very spiritual and warm hearted boy, loyal and obedient, very placid
and amicable. He has lots of "friends" on our local park and they and all
their owners love Kiwani to bits. He enjoys nothing more than a good run and
playing hide and seek in the trees, as long as he can see me he's happy. We
have a very special bond between us and I thank Jan for allowing me to have
the honour and pleasure of sharing my life with such a gentle giant. She
will never know what she did for me the day she let me take him home.
